Since we last discussed, AI-made music seems to hit all the right notes with many listeners. So will human musicians be left playing second fiddle — or strike up a duet with the machines?
There is a fundamental question I feel this conversation is missing - Why do humans consume art? Why do we need it? Do people really just consume music for the physiological dopamine hit from tension and release in the harmony - or is the social, and empathic component more important.
Background music in shopping centres, radios, and auto generated playlists is one thing - but when it comes to the intentional consumption of art of your choice? I ultimately don’t think its people will want to consume AI generated or even ‘human directed’ AI content. And I don’t think this is a healthy idea either.
